Last Sunday was first practice back. Brutal. Lots more off skates workouts included. I was sore until today (a week later). I couldn’t even walk. I looked like a zombie. Everything hurt. More practices after that — monday, thurs, and then today.
Today was a 4.5 hour practice. OMFG. Dead.
Been trying to alter my diet for better performace / endurance / to lean down weighwise.
Currently looking up derby diets. Got any ideas on what to eat before practices and after? And what about days there are no practice?
I’ll be up to practices 5 days a week soon.
FUCK DERBY DRAMA
SO ITS BEEN A WHILE.
I don’t even know how long. Monthish?
The practice schedule has been all kinds of weird, and now that it got some structure to it, it’s time to take the derby break for the season. I managed to go to one practice on Thursday, and I’m about to go to the last one of the season in about 30 minutes.
Since pack assessments aren’t going to take place until the new year, I figured that I would take the awkward practice and infrequent practice schedule as time to focus on other things. When I went to our double header last night, I don’t even know how many times people had asked me if I was still skating. I DIDN’T QUIT DAMNIT! T_T
Oh, so yeah practice Thursday was interesting. I had been off wheels for so long that my body was just kinda like… FUCK YOU. So I tripped over myself about 5 min into my warm up laps and like face palmed on the floor. Then during some drills fell on my bad knee horribly, and twisted my ankle. Then I twisted my ankle even more later, and my wrist. Oh, and did I mention a motherfucking bloody nose? Got clocked in the face (not even that hard), and my nose was like BLEEEEEEDDD. I never really had a bloody nose before. It probably doesn’t help that I had actually gotten my septum pierced not a couple hours before practice. O_O So I bled everywhere on track, in bathroom, etc. Literally washing blood off my hands. It was cray. And from my earlier fall, a huge hip bruise which actually does kind of hurt. Usually I don’t notice bruises. My boyfriend does. I can tell by the OMG WTF HAPPENED TO YOUR _________?! And I’m like.. Oh… Probably derby. He should know better by now :)
So yeah. I will also be breaking in my new wheels, etc today at practice…. uhhh crap. lol
Anyway… so derby updates for the next month or so will be related to me training, because the season is taking a break, so no more official practices. Hopefully I will be outdoor skating more. I will need to make a workout schedule and get RIPPED so I can come back and beast the other freshmeat at assessments :)
I was waiting on gear from a teammate that I had ordered a while ago, and she was late, so I didn’t skate the whole time. But, I wasn’t terribly bummed about that. I did get to scrimmage a decent amount during scrimmage, but couldn’t use my new stuff, because my whole order wasn’t even in the bag…
At least my team awareness is pretty good. Or so I am told. Now I am smelly and tired.
Also, as far as the pack assessments go… We are being retested on our level ones in January first… Just to make sure we are all still fine… but it is supposedly no pressure b/c they said they won’t knock us back to having to redo tryouts if we don’t do as well as we’d hoped. Supposed to just see where we are at? Then more practices, and then pack assessments start.. So that theoretically this break won’t kill us, cause coming back without practicing for so long and holding assessments wouldn’t be too fair. So whoo… I was afraid with all these shenanigans, I would have to re-tryout again because of time stuff.
So our practice space has been under construction / restoration. There hasn’t been a practice for a long time. And the only one soon is this Sunday. They are figuring out where to go / what to do, since it looks like we won’t be able to practice at that spot anymore. Sooo cool. And due to this they are not holding pack assessments until 2013. Cool. I mean it does give me some more time to focus on all the shit I have to do (since all my stuff doesn’t clear up till mid December). But still.. Now I have no derby release. This makes me really sad. And I’ll have to be really good and train myself in the mean time once the storm clears.
